BondIT combines two or more lines together to give you almost double the upload and download speed of the individual lines. You automatically get a resilient connection: if one line fails the only thing you’ll notice is that the speed of the bond is reduced to the single line. Bonded ADSL lines also have far lower running costs than conventional leased lines.

We can bond up to 8 ADSL and/or leased lines into one, but we are most often requested to bond 2 to 4 ADSL lines. We recommend that the ADSL lines come from different providers to maximise the resilience of the service; this ensures that if one network provider has a problem, the other line(s) should be able to continue uninterrupted.

Who needs BondIT and why?

The business case for BondIT

Some companies use a leased line as a legacy from the days when ADSL was slow and unreliable. Today, a bonded DSL service can save over 50% of the cost of a leased line every month while still providing a reliable, resilient connection. It will offer comparable upload speeds and significantly better download speeds. If the DSL lines come from multiple providers, it will offer higher reliability than a single DSL line, making it far more comparable to a leased line.

It is true that a leased line offers greater reliability than a single DSL line, often backed up by an SLA. But where the DSL line is part of a bonded connection, this does not have such a significant effect because the network will still be online – it will just run more slowly until the fault is repaired.

If Internet access is mission critical for your business, it is possible to use a leased line and bond an ADSL line with it to deliver additional bandwidth and provide a back-up. Should your leased line fail, the ADSL will seamlessly take over until the leased line is fixed, protecting you against Internet downtime from a single line fault.

If you currently have only a single DSL line, bonding DSL lines will give you extra speed and bandwidth to handle the demands of your applications. 100 Percent IT can get a bonded line up and running in just a few days – without the expense and long lead times of a leased line installation.

How the solution works

You get the combined speeds of the lines (taking into account the effect of latency on TCP throughput), less a small amount for the bonding overhead.

As part of the bonding solution, we use the IP addresses of the ADSL lines to set up the bonding tunnel. 100 Percent IT then supplies you with IP addresses to use on your network. This means your IP addresses do not change regardless of which DSL line your data actually travels over… a major benefit if you need to host web/email servers on the connection or if you use a VPN.

Our centralised bonding servers, based in London, complete the bonding and pass the data to the Internet. The customer site needs a client router and there are two types to choose from – one with built-in ADSL modems so you don’t need separate modems for the DSL lines, and one type without.
